*UPDATE* After some consideration, we wanted to note that this could also be T-Mobile’s very own presentation for a potential BlackBerry lineup. Hence, the reason the Torch2 is labeled as ‘under consideration’. It’s up for debate. Sound off in the comments!
So far we’ve learned just about everything there is to know for RIM’s BlackBerry 2011 lineup. We saw the CDMA roadmap leak which showed a fairly good estimate as to when devices such as the Montana ‘Bold Touch’, Sedona ‘Next-gen Curve’, Monaco ‘Storm3′, and a previously unknown Malibu ‘Curve Touch’, would release in North America.
Now, we’ve learned some of the GSM devices that will be releasing, in at least Q2. The roadmap above shows the PlayBook at coming in around April, which makes the April 10th rumor look a little more true. Then the BlackBerry Dakota (Internally R005, nicknamed ‘Bold Touch’, sister device to the Montana) to be releasing around end of May, beginning of June. Next we see the BlackBerry Apollo (Internally R006, nicknamed ‘Next-gen Curve’, sister to the Sedona) should release by July. Lastly, the Torch 2 (Internally R040) seems to be ‘under consideration’, but if accepted we could see it as early as end of May, or early June release. Otherwise, it appears as though it could be pushed back.
You’re probably wondering, “where is the Monaco ‘Storm3′ or the ‘Curve Touch’ Malibu?” We aren’t exactly sure if those will be CDMA exclusives or if we could see them at a later date. Being that this roadmap says ‘Q2 Portfolio Candidates’, but lists out the rest of the year. Hopefully we’ll learn soon enough. Something else to note, but it really could be nothing, if you look closely at the Dakota and Apollo image snippets on the roadmap above, it shows writing on them. Now it looks like they may have been cut out from another document, we’re not sure, but there is one unmistakable word across the Dakota: T-Mobile.
2011 looks like it will be a great year for RIM. New devices packed with higher specs, new OS (6.1), and some new features like NFC and mobile hotspot will be a good filler until we see RIM’s ‘super phones’ debut with QNX in (possibly) 2012. Regardless, if you label the 2011 BlackBerry lineup as ‘filler’ we’re sure current BlackBerry users will find them to be a great fit.
